He was an American Actor, known for Across the wide Missouri (1951), Too hot to handle (1938), Wive versus Secretary (1936), Clark Gable's first movie on record is from 1924. Clark Gable died on November 16, 1960 in Los Angeles, California, USA. His last motion picture on file dates from 1965.

William Clark Gable wurde am 1. Februar 1901 in Ohio geboren. Nur sechs Monate nach seiner Geburt starb seine Mutter. Sein Vater gab den Jungen weg, Clark wuchs bei Verwandten auf. Doch nach zwei Jahren holte der Vater ihn wieder zurück. Halbwüchsig flog Clark Gable von der Highschool und brannte von Zuhause durch.
Durch die Aufführung eines Tourneetheaters beschloss Gable, Schauspieler zu werden. Er heiratete die Theatermanagerin Josephine Dillon – eine von insgesamt fünf Frauen – die ihn 1924 nach Hollywood brachte. Nach kurzer Zeit kam er bei MGM unter.
Clark Gable spielte an der Seite der Leinwandschönheiten Joan Crawford (in "Dance, Fools, Dance"), Norma Shearer (A Free Soul) und Jean Harlow. Sie und Gable wurden in den 30er Jahren durch "Red Dust" zum Traumpaar des Films. Für die Komödie "It Happened One Night" an der Seite von Claudette Colbert erhielt Clark Gable den Oscar für die beste Hauptrolle. Schließlich wurde er als Leinwandgröße unsterblich: 1939 spielte er seine berühmteste Rolle – als Rhett Butler in "Vom Winde verweht".
Auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Karriere musste er jedoch einen persönliche Tragödie erleben, ein Wendepunkt in seinem Leben und für seine Karriere: Seine dritte Frau Carole Lombard stirbt 1942 bei einem Flugzeugabsturz. Sie galt als seine große Liebe. Clark Gable wendet seiner Karriere und Hollywood den Rücken zu: Er verpflichtet sich als Soldat und bleibt bis Ende des Krieges in Europa.
Nach seiner Rückkehr wurden seine Verträge bei den Studios nicht erneuert. Seine große Zeit schien vorbei.
1955 heiratete Clark Gable ein fünftes Mal. 1960 stand er für "Misfits – Nicht gesellschaftsfähig" mit Marilyn Monroe vor der Kamera, John Huston führte Regie. Für viele Kritiker sein bester Film. Clark Gable war glücklich, er sollte bald Vater werden. Doch kaum waren die Dreharbeiten beendet, starb Clark Gable an einem Herzinfarkt im Alter von 59 Jahren. 1961 wurde sein Sohn John Clark Gable geboren. (ARD Presse)
