Seit 1989 hat sie sich auch als Regisseurin einen Namen gemacht. Ihr erster Spielfilm kam unter dem Titel "Pentimento" in die Kinos. Es folgte "Detektivin" ("Pas très catholique"), der 1994 beim Filmfestival in Berlin uraufgeführt und ein großer Erfolg wurde. 1996 drehte Tonie Marshall "Enfants de salaud". "Vénus Beauté (Instistut)" mit Audrey Tatou kam Anfang 1999 in die Kinos und fand große Resonanz beim Publikum und bei der Kritik. 2002 folgte "Au plus près du paradis" mit Catherine Deneuve."
