Anna Sten was born on December 3, 1908 in Kiev. She was an American Actress, known for Der Mörder Dimitri Karamasov (1931), Bomben auf Monte Carlo (1931), Let's live a little (1948), Anna Sten's first movie on record is from 1926. Anna Sten died on November 12, 1993 in New York, New York, USA. Her last motion picture on file dates from 1962.
Biographical Notes in German: nach anderen Quellen am 1. Dezember 1910 geboren oder am 29. Juni 1908 geboren, Tochter eines russischen Schauspielers und Tanzlehrers und einer schwedischen Tänzerin, eigentlich Anjushka Stenski Sujakevitch. Debut an der Oper von Kiev, mit 16 Jahren dann nach Moskau, wo sie auch Schauspielunterricht nahm. Erste Filmrollen 1927, Heirat mit dem Regisseur Fjodor Ozep. 1928 geht sie mit der Mezhrabpom-Rus nach Deutschland für eine Koproduktion mit der deutschen Prometheus-Film: Anna Sten blieb in Deutschland, ihre wohl wichtigste Rolle hatte als Grushenka in DER MÖRDER DIMITRI KARAMASOFF (1931) als Partnerin von Fritz Kortner.

1932 heiratet sie den deutschen Architekten und späteren Produzenten Eugen Frenke und folgt einem Ruf nach Hollywood, wo Samuel Goldwyn vergeblich versuchte, sie mit grossem Publicity-Aufwand als neue Dietrich oder Garbo aufzubauen: ihre amerikanischen Rollen konnten nicht überzeugen und rasch trat Anna Sten dann wieder ins zweite Glied zurück. 1955 hatte sie als ältere alkoholabhängige Frau in SOLDIER OF FORTUNE nochmals ein Comeback versucht.

Auf Grund einer Namensähnlichkeit werden Filme der russischen Schauspielerin Anel Sudakevich oft Anna Sten zugeschrieben. (lhg 2008)
