Der schurkische Comte de Rochefort setzt Louis XIV Zwillingsbruder auf den französischen Thron und kerkert den wahren König in einem einsamen Turm ein. Aber die Rechnung geht nicht auf, denn da sind noch D'Artagnan und die getreuen Musketiere...

Reviews in German: Pour la gloire de la France ... - Das letzte Abenteuer von d'Artagnan und der drei Musketiere, König Ludwig XIV und Kardinal Richelieu, die unschuldige Constance .. und die schurkische Lady de Winter. Es war der letzte grosse Film, in welchem Douglas Fairbanks nochmals mit all seinem Können brillierte - ein unverkennbarer Charme, witzig in seinen Aktionen, bravourös zu Fuss und zu Pferd, unbesiegbar mit seinem Degen. Allan Dwan zog alle Register des Mantel- und Degenfilms, nicht weniger meisterhaft in seinen Massenszenen. Und doch muss man damals gespürt haben, dass man einen Stummfilm gedreht hatte, der an seiner Zeit vorbeiging - so merkwürdig muten einem die von Dwan gedrehten Prolog- und Epilogszenen an, seinerzeit nicht stumm sondern mit Ton gedreht (in Locarno 2002 allerdings ebenfalls stumm vorgeführt).
Im Ganzen ein sehenswerter Film und ein nostalgisches Zeugnis,der Schwanengesang des ausklingenden Stummfilms. (lhg 2002)
