Anlässlich eines englisch-amerikanischen Freundschaftsfests in der britischen Hafenstadt Newcastle versucht der texanische Geschäftsmann James Cosmo, sich mit der Luxussanierung alter Kaianlagen ein ganzes Stadtviertel unter den Nagel zu reißen. Dass er dabei auch vor Bestechung, Erpressung und Gewalt nicht zurückschreckt, bekommt schon bald der Clubbesitzer Finney zu spüren, der sich weigert, seinen Jazz-Club im Hafenviertel an Cosmo zu verkaufen. Für zusätzliche Komplikationen sorgt die Liebe zwischen dem verträumten Jazz-Enthusiasten Brendan, der gerade einen Putz-Job in Finneys Club angetreten hat, und der schönen Kate - Ex-Geliebte Cosmos und Mitwisserin bei seinen miesen 'Geschäften'. Als Brendan seinen Boss Finney vor Cosmos Plänen warnt, wittert der amerikanische Gangster Verrat und sinnt auf Rache... (3sat Presse)
