Alice Terry was born on July 24, 1899 in Vincennes, IN, US. She was an American Actress, known for The Magician (1926), Confessions of a Queen (1925), Baroud (1932), Alice Terry's first movie on record is from 1916. Alice Terry died on December 22, 1987 in Burbank, CA, US. Her last motion picture on file dates from 1936.
Biographical Notes in German: Schauspielerin des amerikanischen Stummfilms, eigentlich Alice Frances Taaffe, nach anderen Quellen am 24. Juli 1901 geboren. Im Alter von 14 Jahren mit ihrer Mutter nach Los Angeles, kam ohne Schauspielausbildung unter ihrem Namen Alice Taaffe zu ersten Komparsenrollen bei einer kleineren Filmproduktion Crystal Films (??). 1916 sah Regisseur Charles Giblyn sie unter den Extras im Triangle Studio von Thomas H. Ince und gab ihr eine erste grössere Rolle als unschuldige jüngere Schwester von Bessie Barriscale in «Not my Syster». Bei Cecil B. deMille spielte sie eine kleine Rolle in (dem erhalten gebliebenen Film) «Old Wives for New», des weiteren u.a. in zwei Filmen von James Cruze. Zwischendurch soll sie auch im Schneideraum bei Paramount gearbeitet haben.

Nachdem Regisseur Rex Ingram auf sie aufmerksam wurde, gab er Alice Terry eine kleine Rolle in «Shore Acres», ab dann wurde sie im Film wie auch privat seine "First Lady". «The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse» machte sie - an der Seite von Rudolfo Valentino - zum Publikumsliebling, trotz allem schien sie nie ein Star im klassischen Sinne mit all seinen Allüren gewesen zu sein. In den Zwanziger Jahren spielte sie in fast allen Filmen ihres Mannes Rex Ingram die Hauptrolle, meist mit einer blonden Perrücke, ihre beste Rolle hatte sie wahrscheinlich in «Mare Nostrum» als österreichische Spionin Freya Thalberg. Zu den wichtigsten Produktionen, die sie mit anderen Regisseuren drehte, zählt Victor Sjöströms «Confessions of a Queen».

Mit Beginn des Tonfilms zog sie sich, wie auch Rex Ingram, zurück: in seinem letzten und einzigen Tonfilm «Baroud» führte Alice Terry in jenen Szenen Regie, in denen Ingram spielte. 1936 drehte sie nochmals in Spanien, doch wegen des ausgebrochenen Bürgerkrieges wurde der Film nie fertiggestellt. Alice Terry kehrte nach Los Angeles zurück und widmete sich zurückgezogen vor allem ihrer Malerei. Ihren 1950 verstorbenen Mann überlebte sie um 37 Jahre.

Anmerkung: In manchen Filmographien werden aus den Jahren 1916-18 Filme der Vitagraph Company resp. der Broadway Star Features genannt, in welchen "Alice Terry" mitspielte. Diese Alice Terry war die Theater- und Filmschauspielerin Alice Rodier, die u.a. am Broadway und und am Washington Square aufgetreten war.
