Richard Widmark was born on Dezember 26, 1914 in Sunrise Township, Minnesota, USA. Biografia (en Alemán): Richard Widmark, Jahrgang 1914, der Hollywoods goldene Ära mit Schauspielern wie Clark Gable, Henry Fonda und dem von ihm über alles verehrten Spencer Tracy kannte und liebte, hat sich wie kaum ein anderer aus dem Starrummel heraushalten können, und das, obwohl er in seiner langen Karriere 40 Filme gedreht hat. Seine Einstellung zum Beruf teilte er mit Humphrey Bogart, der gesagt haben soll: 'Das Einzige, was du deinem Publikum schuldest, ist, gute Arbeit zu leisten. Bloß, weil du Schauspieler bist, brauchst du nicht dein ganzes Leben einem Haufen unsichtbarer Gesichter schönzutun.'
1947 begann seine Kinokarriere mit einem Paukenschlag. Die Rolle des geisteskranken Killers in Henry Hathaways Psychothriller 'Der Todeskuss' machte ihn über Nacht zum Star, brachte ihm eine Oscarnominierung, einen 'Golden Globe' und den Preis als bester Schauspieler in Cannes ein, legte ihn aber auch jahrelang auf die Rolle des Bösewichts fest. In den 50er- und 60er-Jahren folgten seine großen Filme wie Elia Kazans 'Unter Geheimbefehl', 'Das Urteil von Nürnberg' oder der John-Ford-Western 'Zwei ritten zusammen'. 1967 drehte Don Siegel mit 'Nur noch 72 Stunden' einen eindringlichen Polizeifilm, in dem Widmark als Sergeant Madigan derart überzeugte, dass daraus eine erfolgreiche Krimi-TV-Serie um 'Madigan' entstand, die zu den Highlights des amerikanischen Fernsehens zählt. Seine letzten Kinorollen spielte er 1986 in Volker Schlöndorffs 'Der Aufstand der alten Männer', in dem er sich nach einer längeren Filmpause auf der Höhe seines Könnens zeigte, und vor allem 1991 in dem Politthriller 'Der Preis der Macht' als Senator Stiller - ein weiterer schauspielerischer Höhepunkt seiner Karriere.
