Biografia in Tedesco (in Tedesco): Tänzerin und Schauspielerin des amerikanischen Stummfilms, geboren 1892 in Denver, Colorado, übersiedelte sie mit ihrer Mutter nach Chicago, wo sie sich mit Gertrud Spoor, der Tochter von Georg Spoor, anfreundete. Spoor hatte 1907 mit Gilbert M. 'Broncho Billy' Anderson die Essanay Studios gegründet. Ab 1910 spielte Ruth Stonehouse in zahlreichen Komödien oder Western der Essanay die Hauptrollen, oft als Partnerin von Gilbert Anderson. 1916 wechselte sie zur Universal, wo sie auch in einigen Filmen Regie führte. Ihre Karriere endete mit dem Ende des Stummfilms, nachdem sie in mehr als 200 Filmen gespielte hatte, von denen nur wenige überlebt haben.
