Biographical Notes in German: The name of this Spanish dancer and actress would be forgotten, if she would not have been in a memorable sequence that made film-history: Beatrice Dominguez - “La bella Sevilla” - was the dancing partner for Valentino's legendary Tango in the Argentinian cantina of “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”. Born Beatriz Dominguez September 6th, 1896, to a Spanish family in San Bernardino near Los Angeles, “she was a beauty of the true Spanish type and won her first fame while appearing at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Diego as La Seville.” Beatrice made her screen debut in 1914, was 1916 in Fairbank's “The Americano”, but then performed mainly as a vaudeville dancer until she returned to the screen in 1919. She played a small part in Ingram's “The day she paid” and then one of the leading characters in “Under Crimson Skies”.
“Carl Laemmle saw in this beautiful dancer an exceptional motion picture type, and he immediately signed Miss Dominguez up for a leading role for 'The Man Hunter.'” She was one of the first Hispanic actresses getting proper screen billing, and was also in the trade papers: “Beatrice Dominguez, a Spanish dancer, has been engaged to play in the Metro production of 'The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,' which Rex Ingram is directing.” Unfortunately, she did not witness her success: filming her next production “The White Horseman” she was hospitalized and died on February 27, 1921: “After an operation for appendicitises complications set in and a second operation was fatal.” “She had been engaged to play the role of the Hindu girl in the new Pathe production 'Without Benefit of Clergy,' the first of the Kipling stories to be filmed by Robert Brunton.” – She was not even 25 years old [lhg 2013]
