Vittorio De Sica was born on July 7, 1901 in Sora. He was an Italian Regisseur, Schauspieler, known for La Ciociara (1960), Mio figlio Nerone (1956), La Compagnia dei Matti (1928), Vittorio De Sica's first movie on record is from 1917. Vittorio De Sica died on November 13, 1974 in Paris. His last motion picture on file dates from 1974.
Biographical Notes in German: Einer der ganz grossen Filmemacher in der Geschichte des Kinos. Vittorio de Sica fand ĂĽber die Schauspielerei zum Metier - mit 16 spielte er seine erste Rolle, in den Dreissiger Jahren war er einer der beliebtesten Schauspieler, und blieb auch als erfolgreicher Regisseur stets der darstellenden Kunst treu, nicht zuletzt, um seine Regiearbeiten zu finanzieren. Der Zusammenarbeit De Sicas mit Cesare Zavattini Ende der Vierziger Jahre, Anfang der FĂĽnfziger Jahre, verdankt der italienische Film Meisterwerke des Neorealismus: SCIUSCIĂ€ ("Schuhputzer"/1946) und LADRI DI BICICLETTE ("Fahrraddiebe"/1948), fĂĽr den De Sica seinen ersten Oscar bekam, 1950 folgte MIRACOLO A MILANO ("Das Wunder von Mailand") und 1964 IERI, OGGI E DOMANI ("Gestern, heute und morgen"). In den Sechziger Jahren wandte sich De Sica kommerziellen Filmproduktionen zu, in denen meist Sophia Loren die Hauptrolle spielte. 1970 erhielt der produktiven Italiener fĂĽr sein Alterswerk IL GIARDINO DI FINZI-CONTINI ("Der Garten der Finzi-Contini") ein weiteres Mal einen Oscar. Seinen letzten Film drehte er 1973: IL VIAGGIO ("Die Reise nach Palermo") (mdr Presse)
