Biographical Notes in German: eigentlich Harris Derek, Schauspieler und später Regisseur des amerikanischen Films, in den Vierziger und Fünfziger Jahren mit wenigen Ausnahmen vor allem als Beau in B-Picttures beschäftigt. Zu seinen besten Interpretationen gehören die Rolle des Nick Romano in Nicholas Rays «Knock on Any Door» und Robert Rossens «All the King's Men». Später sprach man von John Derek vor allem als Ehemann von Ursula Andress, Linda Evans und schliesslich Bo Derek, die er in eher belanglosen Inszenierungen zum Sex-Symbol der Achtziger Jahre hochstilisierte.
