Mark Donskoj was born on February 26, 1901 in Odessa. He was a Russian Director, Author, known for V ljudjakh (1939), Suprugi Orlovy (1977), Prostitutka (1929), Mark Donskoj's first movie on record is from 1927. Mark Donskoj died on March 21, 1981 in Moskva. His last motion picture on file dates from 2011.
Biographical Notes in German: nach anderen Quellen 1897 geboren, ursprünglich Schriftsteller, kommt 1926 zum Film, bedeutender Regisseur des sowjetischen Films, Studium bei Eisenstein in dessen Filmklasse am staatlichen Filminstitut. Regiedebut 1927 mit dem Kurzfilm "Zhizn", in den späten Dreissiger Jahren inszeniert er eine Trilogie über das Leben des Schrifstellers Maxim Gorki.

Nach einen patriotischen Werken in der Zeit des Zweiten Weltkrieges schuf Donskoi 1955 mit "Die Mutter" ein enttäuschendes Remake des Pudovkin-Films. Eine weitaus interessantere Adaption eines Gorki-Stoffes gelang im 1959 mit Foma Gordejev. Seine letzten Filme beschäftigten sich mit Gestalten aus dem Umkreis Lenins. 1966 wurde er mit dem Titel "Verdienter Künstler der UdSSR" ausgezeichnet, 1971 "Held der Sozialistischen Arbeit" (Герой Социалистического Труда).
