Biographical Notes in German: Amerikanischer Filmschauspieler vor allem zur Stummfilmzeit in Abenteurerrollen bekannt, begann als Theaterschauspieler 1910 in Chicago und New York, 1914 von David W. Griffith entdeckt, 1915 bis 1917n bei der Triangle, meist unter der Regie von J. Emerson in Filmen nach Drehbüchern von Anita Loos. 1917 Gründung der Douglas Fairbanks Film Corporation, 1919 Mitbegründer (mit Chaplin, Pickford und Griffith) der United Artists, für die seine besten Stummfilme entstanden: THE MARK OF ZORRO oder THE THIEF OF BAGDAD. er Tonfilm beendete Fairbanks Karriere, seine Stimme entsprach nicht der Vorstellung, die sich das Publikum von seinem Liebling gemacht hatte. Seinen letzten Film drehte Fairbanks 1934 in England.
