Biographical Notes in German: Der Baske Montxo Armendáriz (geb. 1949) drehte ab 1979 etliche aufsehenerregende Kurzfilme, bevor 1984 mit "Tasio", einer "fast dokumentarisch anmutenden Ballade über baskische Lebensart" (Lexikon des Internationalen Films) sein Spielfilmdebüt entstand. Es folgten 1986 "27 Stunden", wieder eine intensive Sozial-Studie aus seiner baskischen Heimat, "Briefe von Alou" über das Schicksal eines senegalesischen Einwanderers in Spanien (1990) und schließlich der mehrfach preisgekrönte und für den Oscar nominierte Spielfilm "Geheimnisse des Herzens" (1997).
