Biographical Notes in German: 1903 im niederländischen Ammersfoort als Sohn eines Kaufmanns geboren, Gesangs- und Schauspielausbildung in Holland, dann Engagements in seiner Heimat, Belgien, Wien und Berlin. Dort Mitte der Dreissiger Jahre als 'Jopie' zum Liebling der Berliner Operettenfans und blieb es dank seinem Charme, seiner frischen Natürlichkeit und Heiterkeit bis ins hohe Alter. Als 94-jähriger feierte er 1997 sein 75-jähriges Bühnenjubiläum und ging mit dem Stück 'Ein gesegnetes Alter' auf Tournee. 1999 Auszeichnung mit dem Bambi für sein Lebenswerk.
Am Weihnachtstag, dem 24. Dezember 2011 starb Heesters im Alter von 108 Jahren, nachdem er noch im November zum letzten Male auf der Bühne stand.
