Biographical Notes in German: Pilot, Fotograf und Autor, erwarb Walter Mittelholzer 1917/18 die Pilotenlizenz, gründete 1919 die Comte, Mittelholzer und Co., Luftbildverlagsanstalt und Passagierflüge, im darauf folgenden Jahre wurde daraus die Ad Astra Aero zusammen., deren Direktor und Chefpilot Mittelholzer wurde. Nach Flügen in die Spitzbergen und Persion startete Mittelholzer 1926 zu seinem ersten Afrikaflug und landete im Februar 1927 in Cape Town. Auf seinem zweiten Afrikaflug überflog er als erster Mitte Dezember 1929 den Kilimandscharo. Nach der Gründung der Swissair wurde Mittelholzer ihr erster technischer Direktor.

Schon früh widmete sich Walter Mittelholzer auch der Photographie und gestaltete seine Pionierflüge zu aufsehenerregenden Filmdokumenten.
