Max Obal was born on September 4, 1881 in Brieg, Schlesien. He was a German Director, Actor, known for Abenteuer im Engadin (1932), L' Abisso della morte (1927), Der Klosterjäger (1935), Max Obal's first movie on record is from 1911. Max Obal died on May 18, 1949 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. His last motion picture on file dates from 1938.
Biographical Notes in German: Regisseur des deutschen Films, vor allem in der Stummfilmzeit tätig. Eigentlich Max Sroke, erst Ausbildung als Optiker, dann Schauspielschule in Hamburg. Theaterdebut in Hamburg als Schauspieler, dann in Bremen, Leipzig, 1907 nach Berlin. Erste Rollen beim Film 1905, ab 1910 ausschliesslich für das Kino tätig. Als Regisseur drehte Obal vorwiegend Kriminalfilme, Dramen oder Melodramen, anfangs der Tonfilmzeit auch Komödien wie etwa «Abenteuer im Engadin». Nach dem Remake des Films «Schloss Vogelöd» war Max Obals Karriere zu Ende.
