Biographical Notes in German: Arbeitet zunächst als Pädagoge (Kindertheater) und wendet sich Anfang der zwanziger Jahre dem Film zu. Mit dem Film GOSPODA SKOTININI von 1926 beginnt seine Laufbahn als Regisseur, wobei seine frühen Filme stark ideologisch gefärbt sind und ein verfälschendes Bild westlicher Gesellschaften zeichnen.
Sein Film SALAMANDRA, eine deutsch-russische Koproduktion von 1928, wird in Deutschland mit einem Aufführungsverbot belegt. Mit seinem ersten Tonfilm PETERSBURGSKAJA NOTSCH von 1934 beginnt Rosal eine Reihe von Literaturverfilmungen, unter anderem nach Vorlagen von Feuchtwanger, Gorkij und Tolstoi. Zudem inszeniert er Filmbiografien berühmter Komponisten und Dichter. Sein letzter Film ist ONI SCHIWUT RJADOM von 1968. (deutsches-filminstitut.de)
