Heinz Rühmann was born on March 7, 1902 in Essen. He was a German Actor, Director, known for Die Feuerzangenbowle (1944), Allotria (1936), Dr. med Hiob Prätorius (1965), Heinz Rühmann's first movie on record is from 1926. Heinz Rühmann died on October 4, 1994 in Aufkirchen bei Starnberg. His last motion picture on file dates from 1993.
Biographical Notes in German: Deutscher Schauspieler und Regisseur, geboren am 7. März 1902 in Essen als
Sohn des Gastwirtepaares Hermann und Margarethe Rühmann geboren. Nach der
Scheidung seiner Eltern 1916 mit seinen beiden Schwestern und seiner Mutter
nach München. Schauspielunterricht bein Friedrich Basil in München, erstes
Theaterengagement am Theater in Breslau. 1921/22 ans Residenztheater
Hannover, Engagements in Bremen und München. Am 9. August 1924 Heirat mit
der Schauspielerin Maria Herbot. 1926 erster Stummfilm, Das deutsche
Mutterherz.

1930 Durchbruch mit dem Film Die drei von der Tankstelle, wird mit Lilian
Harvey, und Hans Albers zu einem der beliebtesten deutschen Schauspieler.
Nach der Machtübergreifung der Nationalsozialisten Arrangement mit den neuen
Machthabern, 1938 unter Druck, u.a. in einem Leitartikel des Schwarzen
Korps, Scheidung von seiner jüdischen Frau Maria. Kurze Zeit danach heiratet
Rühmann die Schauspielerin Hertha Feiler. Rühmanns Rollen des kleinen
optimistischen Mannes werden bleiben in ihrer unpolitischen Form zunehmend
regimekonform, seinen Darstellungen kommen "kriegswichtige"
Ablenkungsfunktion von der Realtät zu: in einer Ausgabe der Deutschen
Wochenschau lässt er sich als prominenter Kurierflieger darstellen.

Nach dem Zusammenbruch 1945 wird Rühmann als "nicht belastet" eingestuft,
1947 gründet er die Filmgesellschaft "Comedia", die 1953 nach mehreren
Misserfolgen bankrott geht. 1957 wird er mit dem Preis der deutschen
Filmkritik für seine Rolle in Zuckmayers Der Hauptmann von Köpenick
ausgezeichnet. 1966 erhält Rühmann das Bundesverdienstkreuz.

Zu den weiteren beliebten Rollen des deutschen Unterhaltungsfilms zählen
seine Darstellungen des Pater Brown oder des Kommissar Maigrets, bei
mehreren Filmen seines Freundes Kurt Hoffmann spielt Rühmann die Hauptrolle.


Hertha Feiler stirbt nach schwerer Krankheit 1970, Rühmann zieht sich zurück
und tritt nur noch in wenigen Filmen und einigen anspruchsvolleren
TV-Stücken auf. 1974 heiratet er Hertha Droemer. Am 3. Oktober 1994 stirbt
Rühmann in Aufkirchen am Starnberger See.
