Biographical Notes in German: eigentlich Michael Sinnott, nach anderen Quellen 1884 in Denville, Kanada, geboren, von 1909 an Mitglied des Ensembles von David W. Griffith, gründete 1912 die "Keystone Productions", einer der ersten amerikanischen Filmproduzenten, drehte von 1912 bis 1930 mehrere hundert Kurzfilm-Komödien. Gilt als der "Erfinder des Slapstick", der typischen amerikanischen Filmkomödie des Stummfilms, und als "Vater von Charlie Chaplin".
