Biografia
Kameramann des amerikanischen und deutschen Stummfilms, geboren am 24. April 1869 in Bremen, emigrierte 1890 nach den USA und wurde 1899 amerikanischer Staatsbürger [lt. IMDb]. Als Techniker verschiedene Verbesserungen und Erfindungen für Filmkameras, als Kameramann u.a. drei Jahre bei Thomas A. Edison tätig, um 1914 Präsident des "Camera Club" und bei der Life Photo Film Corporation, 1915 bis 1918 bei der Film Film Corporation, wo er - anscheinend erfolglos - auch ein Regiedebüt versuchte. So wurde er auch als Assistent von Raoul Walsh in dessen "Regeneration" genannt. Für kurze Zeit war Kugler anfangs 1916 bei Tom Terriss, verliess aber die Firma bereits wieder nach zwei Monaten. 1919 änderte er seinen Namen in Frank G. Kirby und drehte als Kameramann und Regisseur schliesslich in der ersten Hälfte der Zwanziger Jahre auch einige Spiel- und Dokumentarfilme in Deutschland. Als letzter Film wird er als Presenter für Oscar Micheaux's "The Broken Violin" 1927 erwähnt. (lhg 2012)
