As musical director of the Loews chain of theaters in the silent era, he supervised an army of 1600+ musicians and 50 organists and compiled music cue sheets for a huge number of films.
In 1912 he developed a system he named "Motion Picture Synchrony" - a method of selecting appropriate musical accompaniments based on color-coding. [imdb]
