Grigorij Kozintsev was born on March 22, 1905 in Kiev, Ukraine. He was a Russian Director, Author, known for Pokhozhdenjia Oktjabrinj (1924), Gamlet (1964), Vyborgskaja Storona (1939), Grigorij Kozintsev's first movie on record is from 1924. Grigorij Kozintsev died on May 11, 1973 in Leningrad. His last motion picture on file dates from 1970.

Biographical Notes
Sowjetischer Filmregisseur, Seit 1919 Theater, 1922 zusammen mit Leonid Trauberg und anderen Gründung des FEKS, im Rahmen dessen er mit Trauberg bis 1930 mehrere Filme realisiert. In den Dreissiger Jahren vor allem durch die Maxim-Trilogie bekannt. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg löste sich das Duo Kozintsev-Trauberg auf, und beide führten für sich allein Regie. Kozintsevs Spätwerk "Hamlet" zählt zu den besten Adaptation des Shakespeare-Stoffes, "King Lear" wurde dann sein letzter Film.
1964 wurde Grigorij Kozintsev als verdienter Künstler der UdSSR geehrt, für "Hamlet" erhielt er 1965 den Lenin-Preis. (lhg 2011)
