Bedeutende Autorin des amerikanischen Stummfilms, debütierte als Schauspielerin im amerikanischen Film und gelangte circa 1916 als Autorin zur Metro, wo sie in der Folge zügig zur Chefdramaturgin und Produzentin aufstieg. Zu ihren bedeutenden Leistungen zählten Filme "The Red Lantern" von und für Alla Nazimova sowie die Verfilmung von Vicente Blasco Ibañez' "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" durch Rex Ingram. Sie gilt als eigentliche Entdeckerin und Förderin Rudolf Valentinos, entzweite sich aber in späteren Jahren.
June Mathis' Geburtsdatum wird oft mit dem 30. Juni 1892 angegeben, dürfte aber im Januar 1887 gewesen sein, sie starb 1927 während einer Theateraufführung in New York
