Synopsis in German
Iwan, einen russischen Geiger, hat es in die Schweiz verschlagen. Da bekommt er die Einladung einer entfernten Verwandten, Fürstin Wirsky, als ihr Gast nach Russland zu kommen. Um die Reise zu finanzieren, übernimmt Iwan einen Auftrag von Revolutionären, die ein Komplott gegen den Großfürsten schmieden. Er überbringt einem Mann in Moskau eine Nachricht und verliebt sich sofort in seine Tochter Marja. Marjas Vater aber liebt Fürstin Wirsky und will die Revolutionäre verraten. Die Fürstin wiederum verliebt sich in Iwan, und aus Eifersucht lässt sie Marja nach Sibirien verfrachten. Daraufhin erwürgt Iwan die Fürstin und verbringt den Rest seines Lebens in melancholischer Sehnsucht nach Marja, die er nie geküsst hat. Und als er eines Tages die Nachricht von Marjas Tod erhält, begeht er Selbstmord. (www.filmportal.de)
