Synopsis in German
Es ist nur ein kleiner Bungalow in Nordkalifornien, aber für Kathy Nicolo ist es die letzte Hoffnung auf ein geordnetes Leben. Als ein bürokratischer Irrtum jedoch zur Zwangsräumung führt, bleibt Kathy ohne Obdach auf der Straße zurück und weiß nicht, wie sie verhindern soll, dass das Haus bei einer Auktion für einen Spottpreis versteigert wird. Der neue Eigentümer, Massoud Amir Behrani, sieht in dem Haus die Erfüllung seines amerikanischen Traums, den er verfolgt, seit er mit seiner Familie vor Jahren aus dem Iran flüchten musste.

Früher war Behrani Oberst der iranischen Luftwaffe. In den USA schlägt er sich und seine Familie nun mehr schlecht als recht durch und versucht, den Anschein von Wohlstand aufrechtzuerhalten. Das am Meer gelegene neue Haus, das er mit seinen letzten Ersparnissen erworben hat, soll seiner Familie endlich den einstigen Wohlstand zurückbringen. Bald eskaliert der Konflikt zwischen Kathy und Behrani, die beide Anspruch auf das Haus erheben. Was als Streit um einen kleinen Bungalow begann, steigert sich zu einem Kleinkrieg, der alle Beteiligten unaufhaltsam in eine Katastrophe treibt. (ARD Presse)

In den Hauptrollen liefern sich die beiden Oscar-Gewinner Jennifer Connelly ("A Beautiful Mind") und Ben Kingsley ("Ghandi") ein grandioses Schauspielerduell, das Kingsley seine vierte Oscar-Nominierung einbrachte. In weiteren Rollen sind Ron Eldard ("Black Hawk Down") und die iranische Bühnen- und Filmschauspielerin Shohreh Aghdashloo zu sehen, die ihre Karriere nach der Islamischen Revolution in England und Los Angeles fortsetzte.
