Reviews in German: Das vierstündige Abel-Gance-Kolossalwerk "Napoleon" aus dem Jahre 1927 wird in einer rekonstruierten Fassung und mit einer neukomponierten Musik wiederaufgeführt. Sieht man von kommerziell bedingten Eingriffen (Einfärbung, schnellere Projektion, neukomponierte Musik) ab, so ist dieser Stummfilm in zweifacher Hinsicht interessant: Napoleon erscheint als ein von der Vorsehung bestimmter Übermensch, das Heldenporträt ist kritiklos und pathetisch. Allen inhaltlichen Schwächen zum Trotz finden sich aber faszinierende filmästhetische Stilmittel (entfesselte Kamera, Parallelmontagen, dreigeteilte Leinwand), die der Zuschauer bewundern und anerkennen muß, doch der schale Nachgeschmack, einem im Grunde reaktionären Weltbild zu applaudieren, läßt sich nicht verhehlen.
