Synopsis in German
Am 2. Dezember 1805 gelingt es Napoleon Bonaparte in der ruhmreichen "Dreikaiserschlacht“ bei Austerlitz das österreichische Kaiserreich zu besiegen. Bedingung des Friedensvertrages ist die Preisgabe des Landes Tirol an die Franzosen. Für die Tiroler beginnt nun eine schwere Zeit unter der Fremdherrschaft. Unter ihrem Führer Andreas Hofer wird ihnen schnell bewusst, dass sie sich ohne fremde Hilfe gegen diese Übermacht nicht auflehnen können. 1809 trifft sich eine Abordnung der Tiroler mit Erzherzog Johann in Wien, um über einen vereinten Aufstand gegen Napoleon zu beraten. Das ganze Volk wird nun mobil gemacht, und es gelingt den Menschen, ihr Land Stück für Stück zurückzugewinnen. Hofer zieht in Innsbruck ein und wird von Kaiser Franz zum Oberkommandanten in Tirol ernannt. Da kommt die Hiobsbotschaft. Österreich musste aufgrund der großen Verluste mit Napoleon Frieden schließen - der Preis ist Tirol. Nun gibt auch Hofer endgültig auf. Von der französischen Übermacht gestellt, flieht er in die Berge. Aber diese Ruhe ist nur von kurzer Dauer.. (Deutsches Filminstitut - DIF)
