Bei einem Maskenfest stürzt ein reicher italienischer Graf, der als König Heinrich IV. kostümiert ist, vom Pferd und verfällt der Wahnvorstellung, wirklich Heinrich IV. zu sein. Nach vielen Jahren kommt er wieder zur Vernunft, spielt aber seine Rolle weiter, um sich an einem Nebenbuhler zu rächen, der an dem damaligen Sturz vom Pferd die Schuld trug. (www.filmportal.de)
