Synopsis in German
Mitten in einer Nachtsitzung erhält der Bankier Carlton einen Telefonanruf. Als er den Hörer zur Hand nimmt, hört er einen furchtbaren Schrei und glaubt, seine Frau sei ermordet worden. Voller Angst eilt er nach Hause – wo er seine Gattin gesund und munter vorfindet. Er erfährt, dass der Anruf durch eine falsche Verbindung zustande kam, doch die Angelegenheit lässt ihm keine Ruhe: Carlton engagiert den Detektiv Brown, der der Sache auf den Grund gehen soll.
