Synopsis in German
Auf der Suche nach ihrem Verlobten, der sie im Stich gelassen hat, kommt die hoch schwangere Polin Pauline Karka Anfang der 1950er Jahre mittellos nach Berlin. Die einzige Spur führt zu dem Spediteur Karl John, bei dem der Verlobte kurz gearbeitet hat. Während Karl geschäftlich verreisen muss, nimmt dessen Frau Anna die verzweifelte junge Frau bei sich auf. Ihre Fürsorge ist allerdings nicht ganz uneigennützig, denn die Johns sind bislang ungewollt kinderlos geblieben. Aus Angst, ihr Mann könnte sie deswegen verlassen, verschweigt Anna ihm, die bis vor kurzem ebenfalls schwanger war, dass sie ihr Kind verloren hat.
Stattdessen täuscht sie ihre Schwangerschaft weiterhin vor. Anna nutzt Paulines verzweifelte Lage aus und bringt sie dazu, ohne ärztliche Hilfe zu entbinden und ihr das Kind für ein paar 100 Mark zu überlassen. (3Sat Presse)
