Synopsis in German
Die bildschöne hochbegabte und gebildete Lucrezia flüchtet sich in eine zahllose Kette von Affären, bis die Familie beschließt, ihren Gatten loszuwerden und sie mit dem Herzog von Aragon zu verheiraten. Lucrezia findet in ihm die große Liebe ihres Lebens, auch Aragon kann sich ihrem Zauber nicht entziehen. Doch das gemeinsame Glück ist nicht von Dauer. Der diabolische Machtspieler Cesare hat neue Pläne für die Schwester, die ihm endgültig die Herrschaft über ganz Italien einbringen sollen. Ein erster Mordversuch an Aragon schlägt fehl. Lucrezia, die die mörderische Heimtücke ihres Bruders erst jetzt ganz durchschaut, versucht in ihrer Verzweiflung, Cesare zu ermorden. Ihr Anschlag misslingt, auch Aragon kann den Mördern nicht entkommen. (mdr Presse)

Er verfilmte eher den Mythos als die Realität des berühmt-berüchtigten Renaissance-Geschlechts: Die Legenden um die mörderischen Borgias wuchern bis heute. Fakten und Fiktion sind kaum auseinanderzuhalten. Christian-Jaques filmische Biografie der bildschönen Lucrezia endet mit der bevorstehenden Einheirat in das mächtige Haus Este. Als Gattin von Alfonso d'Este, den sie 1501 in dritter Ehe heiratete, wirkte Lucrezia Borgia (1480-1519) als Mäzenin der schönen Künste und holte Dichter und Gelehrte an den Hof von Ferrara. Die Titelrolle besetzte Christian-Jaque mit Martine Carol, die zwei Jahre später seine Ehefrau wurde. Martine Carol - Jahrgang 1920 - debütierte mit 20 Jahren auf der Leinwand.
