Synopsis in German
Die junge Josefa Maria (Marianne Hold), eine Ur-Ur-Enkelin des Kaisers Franz Josef von Österreich, ist standesgemäß mit einem Grafen verlobt, den sie aber kaum kennt. Bei einem Ferienbesuch in ihrem Heimatdorf St. Wolfgang trifft Josefa ihren Jugendfreund Toni Leitner (Gerhard Riedmann) wieder, der eine gut gehende Autowerkstatt eröffnet hat. Josefa hat von ihrer Mutter (Maria von Tasnady) ein Auto geschenkt bekommen und nimmt bei Toni Fahrstunden. Dabei kommt es zu einem Beinahe-Unfall mit dem durchreisenden Berliner Zeitungsreporter Friedrich (Walter Gross). Der Reporter macht einen Schnappschuss von den beiden im Wagen, und als er später erfährt, dass Josefa eine Prinzessin ist, veröffentlicht er das Foto auf der Klatschspalte seiner Zeitung. Die um die standesgemäße Hochzeit ihrer Enkeltochter besorgte Fürstin Isabella (Annie Rosar) trifft hinter Josefas Rücken sofort alle Vorkehrungen, um weitere "Fahrstunden" zu unterbinden. Doch Josefa widersetzt sich, sie hat sich in Toni verliebt. Als sie sich weiterhin mit ihm trifft, lässt Isabella dem tüchtigen jungen Mechaniker ein verlockendes berufliches Angebot zukommen, das allerdings mit seiner Ausreise nach Australien verbunden ist. Toni gesteht Josefa seine Liebe und bittet sie, mit ihm nach Australien zu kommen. Josefa lehnt das Angebot ab und besinnt sich auf ihre Pflichten als Adlige... (ARD Presse)
