Reviews in German: "A few bangs for your buck in this moderate family action-adventure. Lovable, roistering, tequila-swigging treasure-hunter Dirk Pitt (Matthew McConaughey) is in the African desert tracking down a lost ship from the American Civil War. His very first appearance on screen, heaving himself out of the ocean on to a boat, is transparently contrived to show how all that work in the gym is paying off. His upper arms in particular look like two genetically modified hams. Dirk teams up with a wacky buddy, a boringly written role in which Steve Zahn is wasted. Penélope Cruz is a brainy doctor with the World Health Organisation. We know shes brainy because she wears glasses in the first few scenes -- and then she doesnt need them any more! Has she switched to contacts? Or are they reading glasses that she doesnt require for fighting and flirting?" -- PB, Mail&Guardian
