Synopsis in German
Joe Wilson (Joe E. Brown) verdient seine Brötchen mit verrückten Clownerien. Er nennt sich stolz "Shakespeare der Burleske" und kann mehr als nur herrliche Grimmassen schneiden. Er und seine hübsche Frau Fay (Ann Dvorak) treten gemeinsam in der Wander-Show von Oscar Schlemmer (Joseph Cawthorn) auf und lieben sich sehr.
Eines Tages stößt die überspannte Millionenerbin Claire Whitmore (Patricia Ellis), die wieder einmal ausgerissen ist, zu der Truppe. Joe ahnt nicht, wer sie wirklich ist, und verschafft ihr gutmütig einen Job in der Show. Der Presseagent Don Wheeler (William Gargan) dagegen erkennt Claire sehr wohl und will Kapital aus dieser Situation schlagen. Er sorgt dafür, dass Joe für eine neue Produktion am Broadway engagiert wird, allerdings muss Claire darin als seine Partnerin auftreten.
Fay hat nichts dagegen, dass ihr geliebter Mann die Chance wahrnimmt, und reist zurück zu Schlemmer und dessen Tanzgirls. Joes Start am Broadway wird tatsächlich ein Riesenerfolg, nur verliebt sich Joe daraufhin in Claire und glaubt, seiner Frau reinen Wein einschenken zu müssen. Er schreibt ihr einen entsprechenden Brief, was er kurz darauf schon sehr bedauert. Leider hat sein neuer Butler diesen Brief bereits in den Kasten geworfen und so muss Joe sich mächtig ins Zeug legen, um zu retten, was zu retten ist. .. (ARD Presse)
