Synopsis in German
Während einer Vorstellung in Mexico bezaubert die amerikanische Opernsängerin Lorelei den Provinzgouverneur Francisco De Sarpina. Lorelei hat keine Zeit für ihn, da auch ihr Verlobter, Marion Leslie, in Mexico weilt. Der eifersüchtige Sarpina hatte Marion unter falschen Anschuldigungen verhaften lassen und droht, ihn bei Morgengrauen hinrichten zu lassen, falls Lorelei nicht einwilligt, die Nacht mit ihm, Sarpina, zu verbringen. Lorelei willigt ein, ersticht ihn aber, nachdem sie den Freipass von Sarpina erhalten hatte. Sie eilt mit den Pässen zum Gefängnis, doch es ist zu spät - Sarpina hat sie hintergangen, Marion wird vor Loreleis Augen erschossen...

Remarks and general Information in German: In Österreich wurde der Film unter dem Titel "Toska! oder: Gluten der Leidenschaft" gezeigt, allerdings ohne Hinweis auf den Originaltitel noch auf die Mitwirkenden. Als Schauspieler wurden Phantasienamen wie "Miss Harry Joung" und "G. Hamilton" angegeben. Belegt ist eine Programmierung des Films vom 28. Juni bis 1. Juli 1919 im Triumph-Kino in Innsbruck. Jahrelang galt der Film als verschollen galt, erst 2010 wurde er in einer unvollständigen Kopie mit deutschen Titel im Filmarchiv Austria entdeckt; Länge der visionierten Kopie in Bologna 2012: 49 Minuten. «Der unter Zahl 20.991, vom 16. Juli 1918 verbotene Film »Tosca« (Kalem-Film, Amerika) wird nach neuerlicher Vorführung unter dem Titel »Gluten der Leidenschaft« sub Zahl 30.190, vom 30. August 1918 zugelassen, zur Vorführung in den Jugendvorstellungen als nicht geeignet befunden. doch hat die Liebesszene zwischen Scarpia und Tosca im fünften Akt derart gekürzt zu werden, dass sie in dem Augenblicke schliesst, wie er sich ihr begehrlich nähert, um sie zu umarmen und erst wieder beginnen darf, wie Tosca ihm den Dolch in die Brust gestossen hat, so dass die Jagd der beiden um den Tisch und Scarpias Ringen mit ihr vollständig entfällt. Auch dürfen die Strassenplakate und Ankündigungen keinerlei Hinweis auf die Oper »Tosca« enthalten.» (Der Kinobesitzer Nr. 53, 23. September 1918, pg 3)

Die Neue Kino-Rundschau Nr 90 vom 23. November 1918 erwähnt den Titel »Gluten der Leidenschaft« mit dem Hinweis auf Iris-Film, Zürich, amerikanisches Negativ.
