Synopsis in German
Zweite Runde für die Streithähne Don Camillo und Peppone: Durch die Hilfe seines Erzfeindes, des kommunistischen Bürgermeisters Peppone, darf der strafversetzte Pfarrer Don Camillo in sein Heimatdorf zurückkehren. Doch Peppones Nächstenliebe hat ihren Grund: Der Bürgermeister baut auf die Hilfe des Pfarrers, um einen Großgrundbesitzer dazu zu bewegen, einen Teil seines Geländes an die Gemeinde abzutreten. Und außerdem wird es dem überzeugten Kommunisten ohne seinen gottgläubigen Gegenspieler langweilig. Der aufbrausende Pfarrer Don Camillo ist von seinen Vorgesetzten strafversetzt worden.
Als er in seine neue Gemeinde, ein abgelegenes Bergdorf, kommt, wird er nicht gerade feierlich empfangen. Auch seine neue Haushälterin ist nicht gerade das, was man einen freundlichen Menschen nennt, und als Don Camillo am Sonntag seinen ersten Gottesdienst hält, predigt er vor leeren Bänken. Kurzum: Enttäuschung auf der ganzen Linie. Aber in seinem Heimatdorf Boscaccio geht es seinem Widersacher Peppone auch nicht viel besser. Der rauflustige Bürgermeister vermisst seinen Lieblingsfeind, denn Don Camillos Nachfolger taugt bestenfalls als Witzfigur. Ein Mann wie Peppone aber braucht einen ebenbürtigen Gegner. Also setzt er sich dafür ein, dass Hochwürden Don Camillo wieder in sein Heimatdorf zurückkehren darf. Ein bisschen Eigennutz steckt allerdings hinter seiner Hilfsbereitschaft: Peppone möchte einen störrischen Großgrundbesitzer dazu überreden, für den geplanten Deichbau einen Teil seines Landes herzugeben - und da kann die Unterstützung eines kirchlichen Würdenträgers nicht schaden.
