Zuerst ausgelacht und niedergeschrieen, entwickelt sich Lassalle zum charismatischen Redner und Arbeiterführer, gründet schliesslich den "Allgemeinen Deutschen Arbeiterverein", eine Vorläuferorganisation der SPD, mit der er vor allem die Forderung nach allgemeinem direkten Wahlrecht vertritt. Historische Figuren wie Heinrich Heine und Otto von Bismarck treten auf, aber auch Lassalles Privatleben wird beleuchtet. Er stirbt bei einem Duell um eine Frau.» (www.filmportal.de)
