Das Portrait von vier jungen Frauen, die versuchen, der Eintönigkeit ihres Daseins zu entfliehen. Die burschikose Jane (Bernadette Lafont) sucht ihr Glück in Liebschaften, Jacqueline (Clotilde Joano) sieht ihren Traummann in einem Fremden, der sie verfolgt; Ginette (Stéphane Audran) führt ein 'Doppelleben' und singt heimlich im Kabarett. Rita hofft der Eintönigkeit des Lebens als Verkäuferin zu entfliehen und in bessere Kreise ein zu heiraten...
