Synopsis in German
Als Hebamme begleitet Emilia täglich Frauen durch Schwangerschaft und Geburtsprozess bis in einen neuen Lebensabschnitt voller Herausforderungen. Nun steht sie vor ihrem eigenen "Meisterstück": In wenigen Wochen erwarten sie und ihr Mann Christoph das erste Kind. Mit professioneller Gelassenheit und voller Vorfreude bereitet Emilia die Ankunft ihres Kindes vor. Doch es kommt alles anders als erwartet.
Die Hausgeburt muss abgebrochen werden, Emilia kommt in die Klinik. Sie spürt vom ersten Augenblick an, dass sie dieses Kind nicht lieben kann. Spürt, dass sie in ihrem Zuhause in dem kleinen bayerischen Ort plötzlich wie aus der Welt gefallen ist. Alles ist ihr auf einmal fremd: die fröhliche Schwiegermutter Monika, die ein unkonventionelles Hippieleben führt, die Nachbarin Gretel, die neben dem Bauernhofbetrieb fünf Kinder großgezogen hat, und ihr liebevoller Mann, für den das Leben mit Frau, Kind und Kirchenchor doch eigentlich so perfekt sein könnte. Emilia gleitet immer stärker ab in eine postnatale Depression, die ihr Leben und das des Kindes in Gefahr bringt. (ARD Presse)
