Synopsis in German
Mit sexy Kleidern und viel Schminke trotzt die 19-jährige Melanie ihrem trostlosen Aufenthalt in der Augenspezialklinik in Masserberg in Thüringen. Seit Jahren leidet sie an einer sehr schweren Augenkrankheit, die ohne aufwendige Therapie und teure Medikamente zur Erblindung führen wird. Mel träumt von der Freiheit im Westen und sie ist überzeugt, dass man sie dort auch behandeln könnte. So bleibt ihr nur der neue Arzt Carlo Sanchez als weltgewandter Hoffnungsschimmer: Ungeniert flirtet sie mit dem verheirateten Kubaner, der sich schnell in sie verliebt. Dank ihm wird Mel sogar von einem renommierten Professor untersucht. Doch der für sie so wichtige Test wird von Chefarzt Dr. Studer nicht genehmigt. Die junge Frau bricht zusammen. Als auch noch ihre Fluchtpläne auffliegen und Carlo sie im Auftrag der Stasi ausspionieren soll, beginnt für das ungleiche Paar ein Wettlauf um Leben und Tod, Liebe und Freiheit. (ARD Presse)
