In der Künstlerszene des New Yorker Stadtteils Greenwich Village hat sich die hübsche, exzentrische Bar-Sängerin Penelope Hals über Kopf in den aufstrebenden jungen Banker James verliebt. Aber nach der Hochzeit ist plötzlich alles anders: Penelope gehört jetzt zur gehobenen Gesellschaft, wird von ihrem vielbeschäftigten Mann vernachlässigt und hat nichts Besseres zu tun, als Geld auszugeben und sich therapieren zu lassen. Die Psychoanalyse bei dem fürsorglichen Doktor Mannix scheint sie allerdings zu brauchen, denn sie hat eine kleine Manie entwickelt: Penelope bestiehlt die Jetset-Bekannten, die sich in ihrem Haus tummeln.
Eines Tages "überfällt" sie, als alte Dame verkleidet, sogar die neue Bank ihres Mannes. Als eine Unschuldige festgenommen wird, steckt Penelope in der Klemme. (3Sat Presse)
