Synopsis in German
Der wohlhabende und frisch verheiratete Guy Carrell führt ein Dasein in der panischen Angst, lebendig begraben zu werden. Dieses Schicksal hat seiner Ansicht nach sein eigener Vater erlitten. Guy kann offenbar nur beruhigt werden, indem er den Sarg seines Vaters öffnet und sich selbst davon überzeugt, dass seine Scheintottheorie nicht zutrifft. Beim Anblick der sterblichen Überreste seines Vaters erleidet Guy einen schweren Schock, wird für tot gehalten und umgehend begraben. Aber Guy lebt noch. Als er mit Glück frei kommt, muss er erkennen, dass seine eigene Frau aus Geldgier ein schnelles Begräbnis gewünscht hat. Die Rache des "Wiederauferstandenen" wird grausam. (3Sat Presse)

Remarks and general Information in German: «Wie seine Figur Guy Carrell war auch der amerikanische Schriftsteller Edgar Allan Poe nach einem traumatischen Erlebnis mit seiner für kurze Zeit scheintoten Frau Virginia von dem Gedanken besessen, einmal lebendig begraben zu werden. Nach Poes Erzählung "Die Scheintoten" drehte Gruselfilmspezialist Roger Corman diesen Film, in dem er mit kalkulierten Schockbildern und virtuos eingesetzten Effekten auf der Leinwand arbeitete.» (3Sat Presse)
