Georg, adliger Sohn eines Gutsbesitzers, ist der Spielleidenschaft verfallen und weiß nicht weiter. Er verlässt das Elternhaus, um in den Freitod zu gehen. Aber sein Leben nimmt eine Wende, als ein Wanderzirkus vorbeikommt. Der Direktor rettet ihn und nimmt ihn auf. Georg wird Artist, heiratet die Tochter des Direktors, gründet mit ihr eine Familie und wird selbst Direktor eines großen Wanderzirkus. Georgs Leben nimmt eine erneute Wende, als sein Bruder, der ihn längst für tot gehalten hat, eine Vorstellung besucht und Georg wiedererkennt. Er bringt ihn dazu, das Zirkusleben wieder aufzugeben, ins bürgerliche Leben zurückzukehren und mit seiner Familie ein Gut zu übernehmen. Aber Frau und Vater steckt der Zirkus zu sehr im Blut. Sie verlassen Georg, der ihnen ein Leben im Wohlstand bietet, um zum Zirkus zurückzugehen. (www.filmportal.de)
