Spanien um das Jahr 1000: Im von den Mauren besetzten Kastilien herrscht eine gespannte Ruhe, als plündernde Banden sinnlos Zerstörung und Gewalt verbreiten. Verzweifelt wenden sich die hilfosen Einwohner an Fernado, den Sohn des legendären El Cid. Diesem gelingt es, mit seiner kleinen Truppe furchtloser Ritter, die maurischen Banden zu vertreiben.
