Die Possen über den verführerischen und bezaubernden Taugenichts Thomas Graal waren für Stillers Entwicklung als Komödienregisseur von großer Bedeutung. Es ist eine der ersten Produktionen über einen Film im Film. Ein populärer junger Schriftsteller soll ein Drehbuch schreiben. Ihm fällt aber rein gar nichts ein, bis die entzückende Karin Molander als seine Sekretärin eingestellt wird. Daraufhin spinnt er eine Geschichte um ihr Liebesleben - so wie er es sich vorstellt. Stillers Film ist ein kompliziertes Netz aus Fantasie, Rückblenden, Tagträumen und Realität.
