Synopsis in German
Brian McLean (James Cagney) arbeitet als Buschpilot im Norden Kanadas und versteht es glänzend, auf nicht ganz korrekte Weise Aufträge zu ergattern. Als Johnny Dutton (Dennis Morgan) und Tiny Murphy (Alan Hale), zwei andere Piloten, es dem kleinen Teufelskerl heimzahlen wollen, holt sich McLean einen Schädelbruch, doch dadurch kommen die drei sich näher und arbeiten fortan zusammen. Dutton ist zwar wieder fuchsteufelswild, weil McLean ihm die hübsche Emily Foster (Brenda Marshall) wegschnappt, aber später erfährt er, dass dieser ihm damit nur einen guten Dienst erwiesen hat.
Nach Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkriegs melden sich alle drei zur Royal Canadian Air Force. McLean darf allerdings nur Piloten ausbilden, für Kampfeinsätze ist er schon zu alt. Da auch seine Disziplin sehr zu wünschen übrig lässt, wird er bald wieder entlassen. Als kurz darauf Piloten für eine Überführung kanadischer Bomber nach England fehlen, ist McLean jedoch wieder zur Stelle und startet zusammen mit seinem Freund Scrounger Harris (Reginald Gardiner) als Navigator. Es wird für beide ein dramatischer Flug in den Tod.... (ARD Presse)
