Auch wenn Leonardo DiCaprio und Claire Danes in Baz Luhrmanns Adaption in Reimform turteln und Tränen vergießen, grüßt der Stakkato-Stil der 90er: Hochliteratur für die MTV-Generation. Selbst ihr Verona ist eine stark stilisierte Filmkulisse, in der die Nerven bloßliegen: große Gefühle, überbordende Optik, Liebe ohne Grenzen. Pop goes opera. Und Leonardo DiCaprio nahm hiermit erstmalig Kurs in Richtung Teeniestar.
