Synopsis in German
Der Biologe Professor Gerald Deemer arbeitet an einem Wachstumsbeschleuniger, der zum Beispiel Tiere wie Rinder und Schweine schneller und größer wachsen lassen soll, um das aufkommende Ernährungsproblem der Weltbevölkerung zu beheben. In seinem Labor experimentiert er an diversen übergroßen Tieren. Bei einem Brand gelingt einer giftigen Riesentarantel unbemerkt die Flucht. Diese wächst zu einem hausgroßen Monstrum heran und bedroht eine nahe gelegene Wüstenstadt. Die Menschen dort fliehen vor der Riesenspinne, aber nicht alle können rechtzeitig entkommen. Eine Gruppe von Einwohnern stellt sich dem Kampf gegen das Monster. (3Sat Presse)
