Ein Baron, der beim Kartenspiel all seinen Reichtum verloren hat, freundet sich mit einem jungen Einbrecher an, Pepel, den er bei sich erwischt. In der Mitte steht ein überzeugendes Paar: Gabin und Jouvet strahlen Menschlichkeit und Überzeugung aus.
